Wherapy’s Values

Now, you may be asking yourself – why would a therapist’s practice consisting of a sole therapist even bother write about the practice’s value system, let alone dedicate a whole page to them?

I believe that it is more important that ever to be transparent with who you are, not with the intention of excluding people, but as a show of respect.  I accept that some of our values may not align (that’s life after all) but I do hope that the level of transparency that I have regarding Wherapy’s values will be a source of comfort to you as a potential patient.

First and foremost, I would like to say that Wherapy is a steadfast supporter of liberal democracy, the international rules-based system and its institutions. Although they are imperfect in their current form (so is everything for that matter) we believe that they are ultimately a source for good and that they are an inspiring sign of what humanity can be capable of.  One such example being the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We believe strongly that everyone has the right to live a life of dignity based on beliefs and values that they hold true.

With that we are also proud to be a European company. We are decisively pro-EU and believe wholeheartedly that the European Union has a positive role to play in world. Yes, there can be a lot of red tape involved in their projects and they are known for being slow, but now as we’re seeing how things go when the rulebook’s been cast aside by power hungry megalomaniacs, I think that a little bit of red tape and some time to think can be a good thing. With this in mind, we support other European companies and will prioritise working with them over companies from other parts of the world. It is our intention to, in the not so distant future, have all of the services supplied to us be solely from European companies. Whenever possible will we also be choosing service suppliers that offer environmentally friendly solutions.

Being in the branch that it is, Wherapy is a company that cares about people and we want that to be reflected in our work outside the therapy room. With that in mind, we aspire to, one day, connect our online self-help service, Wherapy+, to a charitable organisation, so those who can afford to help themselves, can help others that can’t afford to.

Naturally, we also value your privacy and will work at length to insure that whatever information you choose to share with us, stays with us. We will regularly update regarding new privacy measures that we take as soon as we take them.

On the flip side, we also value being transparent with you, whether you are a passerby or a regular patient. That is why I am writing this document. Updates on developments or any missteps regarding our values will be shared with you on social media, through our email newsletter and blogposts.

Since I started this service with the intention of treating people who have been brought up in a country different to their birth country (otherwise known as Third Culture Kids or Adult Third Culture Kids) I would be remiss not to restate Wherapy’s commitment to helping Third Culture Kids with their mental health issues in whatever form they may want help, be that online therapy services, self-help course, articles or videos. Although my practice has expanded to treat non-TCKs as well, its commitment to this group of people will continue for as long as it exists.

We also commit to all content published on this website, being written by humans. Although we see some benefits with AI, we also believe in the benefit of a personal touch. If you’re looking for a therapist, it’s completely understandable that you would want to get to know them first and the easiest way of doing that is by reading the articles that I write. That is why we are committed to not using any AI written articles.

Lastly, we believe that the best way to maintain a healthy mind and soul is to be curious. We are practitioners of life-long learning and want to encourage it. That is why we are committed to sharing what we learn about developments in the field and will do so via our social media platforms, newsletters and blogposts.

Warm regards,
